Mark Paslawsky, a graduate of West Point who joined the Donbas battalion to fight for Ukraine, was killed. Excellent story in the New York Times here:

Amid the cacophony of voices on Twitter reporting facts, rumors and hearsay on the battle for control of eastern Ukraine this summer, one feed, written by a Ukrainian-American investment banker who volunteered to fight the Russian-backed separatists, has offered a no-nonsense account of life on the front lines of what the government in Kiev calls its Anti-Terrorist Operation, or ATO.

That soldier-blogger writing as Bruce Springnote was identified by friends on Wednesday as Mark Paslawsky, a 55-year-old investment banker and United States Army veteran who was killed one day earlier during a battle in Ilovaysk, outside the rebel-held city of Donetsk.

He had a blog under the name Bruce Springnote:

    excellent blog from the battlefield

You have been quiet too long

You are our ears in Kiev

Howard Thurman, an American Educator said
this: “There is something in every one of you
that waits and listens for the sound of the
genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide
you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it,
you will all of your life spend your days on the
ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”
