From the last photo: A tall smokestack once stood here. In 1989, a Ukrainian flag appeared one morning fixed to the top of the smoke stack. Bewildered police and KGB agents milled about. No one wanted to climb the old structure. Eventually, they got a sniper to shoot the flag down.
