There is no mythical time of “civilized” Russia. It wasn’t civilized before the revolution of 1917, during the Soviet era or after its collapse. It wasn’t civilized when it bombed Grozny into oblivion, invaded Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, or partnered with Syria or Iran.
