Yesterday, I caught the beginning of a stirring discussion about Ukraine’s national hero, poet Taras Shevchenko, at a Lviv bookstore. There was standing room only.

Four literary figures offered their views, including Andri Drozda who drew strong connections between Shevchenko’s respect for people who were able to defend themselves and Ukraine’s present-day situation.
