As Expected, Russians Shelled the Evacuation Route from Mariupol

In 2014, during the Battle of Ilovaisk, they agreed to let surrounded Ukrainians withdraw, then they massacred them.

As observed by the Heritage Foundation:

“Russia has rarely, if ever, signed an arms control treaty that it did not violate. Russia is in violation of

the Helsinki Final Act,
the Istanbul Commitments of 1999,
the Presidential Nuclear Initiatives,
an agreement to remove its military from Georgia and Moldova,
the Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty,
the Budapest Memorandum (in which Russia promised to “respect the independence and sovereignty and existing borders of Ukraine” and “refrain from the threat or use of force,” among other things),
the Chemical Weapons Convention,
and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).

Russia is possibly in violation of the Biological Weapons Convention and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty as interpreted by the United States.”

I think Russian phisolophy considers adherence to treaties to be a form of weakness, therefore they go out of their way to demonstrate that they’re unbound by treaties . . . or common decency.

Ukraine’s representative in talks with Russia killed while being detained by Ukrainian Security Service

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) shot and killed during the detention a member of the Ukrainian negotiating team Denis Kireyev. He was suspected of high treason, reported Ukrayinska Pravda and several Ukrainian media outlets, citing representatives of the security forces and politicians.

It sounds like a high-level traitor was killed during his arrest.

Story here.

Dramatic Footage Today of Russian Helicopters, Planes being Shot Down

Russian helicopter shot down over #Ukraine by anti-aircraft missile, Kyiv Oblast, reportedly.

Ukrainian Army shot down Russian fighter jet in the outskirts of Chernihiv. Other footage showed two parachutes in the sky.

Apparently, these are all from today:

Ukrainians Extremely Optimistic – 82% expect victory, 77% believe Ukraine emerges stronger

As astonishingly good as the news has been for Ukraine, I would also say that it’s probably too good – both because Ukraine and forces sympathetic to Ukraine are doing their own info ops, and also because we are biased toward what we want to believe.

The news is indeed positive compared to what most analysts thought to be the expected outcome, but let’s keep it measured, and mindful of the grinding progress still being made by Ukraine’s enemies.
