The deacon is the basic “level” of the hierarchy in the “white priesthood” of the orthodox rite. “White priesthood” is available for married men. Servants of this kind with sufficient level of preparation and spiritual experience can be promoted to the rank of archpriest and even in exceptional cases – a rare priesthood.
