These are the psychopaths and narcissists negotiating over Ukraine. For them it’s a power game. Ukrainians are stupid to think the west has their interests in mind. This political unrest is best used to secure some rights which would shield them from all nefarious influence: gun ownership, local autonomy, competing currencies.
