Curt: Honest “Can’t” vs “Should” Arguments regarding Russia
THE TRUTH: MAKING HONEST CAN’T VS SHOULD ARGUMENTS
If you’re making a “CAN’T” argument, then just admit it’s because you can’t. If you’re making a “SHOULD or SHOULDN’T” argument, then state why you should or shouldn’t. But if you’re making a can’t argument while saying it’s because you shouldn’t, then that’s not truth that’s deception.
It’s true that you CAN’T hold Russia accountable for attacking Ukraine, breaking the postwar consensus, and restarting nuclear proliferation, but that doesn’t me you shouldn’t.
Truth is true. Lie is Lie. Unknown is Unknown. It’s not complicated.
I like remembering the Western Ukrainian People’s Republic
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Ukrainian_People%27s_Republic
It was a high water mark in the troubled history of Ukrainians and Jews. Before the Holocaust, the uprising of Bohdan Khmelnytsky against Poland was considered the most traumatic event in Jewish history. Jews were land managers and tax collectors for the Polish monarch.
The short lived Western Ukrainian People’s Republic gave official status of Jews, and by all accounts, relations were very positive.
Until the recent revolution, I loved the idea of Galician separatism. I thought the rest of Ukraine was too Russian, too Soviet, too corrupt, too far from European standards, too unwilling to fight for European level property rights and rule of law, too tolerant of corruption. I was wrong. Ukraine woke up. There’s a beautiful saying: “I went to Maidan looking for Europe. I found Ukraine.” Amen.

Synchronized protests in Russia (?)
Will this actually happen?
Activists in Internet networks have begun synchronizing protests in different Russian regions. They will apparently start on August 17. Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg … Who’s next?

Russian orthodox church in Ukraine refuses burial service to a fallen Ukrainian soldier… any illusions in anyone’s mind that church and state are very much united in Russia?
The KGB lives on…

RUSSIANS, PROPAGANDA, PSEUDOSCIENCE AND LIES
by Curt
OMG. We know that Russians LOVE pseudoscience and conspiracy theories, right? Of COURSE they believe this nonsense propaganda. It’s presented to them in pseudoscientific form, and it proposes conspiracies. When you live in a culture of propaganda, pseudoscience and lies, you tend to see the world as propaganda pseudoscience and lies. So when you see the actual events, propaganda, pseudoscience and lies are more rational explanations to you than believing the tedious and boring obvious explanation.
Fk. I love them but they’re nuts.
Its a whole civilization run on the equivalent of supermarket tabloid thinking.

Ukraine crisis: Rebel adviser ‘admits executions’
Igor Druz told the BBC such “executions” sent an important signal to the rest of the rebel forces. . . .
Igor Druz is advisor to the rebels’ military commander Igor Strelkov, and a senior spokesman for the rebel-held territories of Donetsk region. He is in charge of the ideology of the eastern Ukrainian rebel movement. In an interview with the BBC in Donetsk he outlined his vision of the so-called ‘state of Novorossia’ they hope to build here.
He says he is a strong supporter of Orthodox Christian morality and family values, and opposed to homosexuality. He hopes to legalise death penalty for the most serious crimes and he is sure that most rebels will support him in this initiative.
lineMr Druz told the BBC: “On several occasions, in a state of emergency, we have carried out executions by shooting to prevent chaos. As a result, our troops, the ones who have pulled out of Sloviansk, are highly disciplined.”

“…Only in Ukraine can you see Banderivtsi protecting synagogues, Jews creating self-defense units, Russians becoming Ukrainian nationalist and Crimean Tatars chanting “Crimea is Ukraine!” I am proud to be Ukrainian!”
Ukrainian is becoming an idea. The idea of liberty from Russian oppression.
