How Iowa Flattened Literature (???)

http://chronicle.com/article/How-Iowa-Flattened-Literature/144531/

What a bunch of incoherent communist poppy-cock!

Since when has academia demonstrated hostility to communism?

“the materialism behind the increasingly sinister Soviet regime.” – wtf???

“the scientific rationality that led to Hiroshima and Nagasaki” – ???

“It was a dream that, after 1939, would vanish almost as quickly as Communism in America.” – ???

If the CIA was determined to snuff out post-modernism at the IWW, why were they so eagerly supporting it in the visual arts? (Huffington Post: Modern Art Was CIA Weapon)

Maybe, just maybe, people favoring rational, coherent narratives has little to do with CIA conspiracies, and more to do with them loving the world and their ability to perceive it.

Participation in literature is a luxury

Reacting to this article about how the market for literature is unfair:

Participation in literature or for that matter, most humanities has always been a luxury because relatively few people are willing to pay for what these disciplines produce. In my opinion, it is damaging to one’s perception of the world to live a life exempt from participation in the market of voluntary exchange. The pressure keeps us honest.

Advice:

Consider yourself lucky to be free from the toils of the past. Cherish the opportunities you have. Experience the world by participating in the market of voluntary exchange — welcome the challenge.
