The use of bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies carries the risk of violating citizens’ property rights and cannot be used in Russia, the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office concluded after meeting with the Central Bank, FSB, and Interior Ministry.
“The monitoring of the use of virtual currencies shows an increasing interest in them, including for the purpose of money laundering, profit obtained through illegal means,” ITAR-TASS quoted the Prosecutor General’s Office as saying.
“Russia’s official currency is the ruble. The introduction of other types of currencies and the issue of money surrogates are banned,” the statement says.

A brief visit to the Hrushevskoho barricades of the protests in Ukraine.
@ 1:42, I slipped on the ice and dipped my arm into the hole on that barrel’s lid. I didn’t think it was a big deal, but whatever chemical was started smelling so bad that I got kicked out of the coffee shop I went to to warm up. It smelled like turpentine, but it wasn’t flammable — at least not explosively so. I checked.
The protests are very organized and disciplined. There are guards both at the entrances and roving who enforce a no-alcohol, no-drunkenness policy. Shops, even within the perimeter, continue to function. There have been no smashed windows or looting.
The logistics are impressive too — kitchens, first aid stations, garbage remove, firewood.

How Ukraine can become a free country
Ukraine should NOT join either the EU or a Russian trade bloc. It should declare unilater free trade and welcome (and protect) foreign capital from any source. Allow trade settlement in any desired currency. Scrap all business regulation, but protect property rights in honest courts.

Auto Maidam Leader Found Beaten but Alive after 8 Days
I spoke with someone just yesterday who was involved with Auto-Maidan. They’d drive to different cities, hold rallies and distribute leaflets. Last week, they were ambushed by the Berkut riot police. Cars were smashed, destroyed. Participants beaten. The guy I spoke with was able to escape.
